Melinda McKnight

During her tenure as Supervisor and on the Town Board (2019 - 2023), Melinda introduced important legislation to maintain the qualities of the town we all share. She routinely worked across party lines to resolve the issues that her administration was confronted with. To that end, she practiced fiscal responsibility on behalf of taxpayers by working to find the best, most cost-effective solution rather than resorting to a “quick fix” that would cost more in the long term. During her time in office she held property taxes steady while improving resident services. She saved taxpayers thousands of dollars by improving efficiency in local government operations and ensured proper legal representation for all the town boards to prevent costly errors.  She was also responsive to residents by working full-time while listening to and solving problems within her capability. She also applied for grants, implemented a new website, and initiated the monthly newsletter to communicate more effectively with residents.  She also supported the work of the Climate Smart Task Force to achieve Bronze status as a Climate Smart Community, and worked to expand the Catskill Mountain Scenic Byway to include the Town of Hurley.
